August Martinussen was born August 30, 1857 in Stange, Hedmark Norway, on the Storhov farm. He was baptized in the Romedal Parish. August went to America to be with other Storhoff relatives in Minnesota. He applied for Naturalization on the same day as Bernt Storhoff in Otter Tail, Minnesota. They must have been cousins, but I have not found that link yet. It wasn't long before he headed West to Washington. Probably because that is where Norwegians moved so they could earn money deep sea fishing and logging. August made it to Poulsbo, WA, a Norwegian town, big on fishing. There he met the widow Anna Tallagson, and married her. She had 5 children and 160 acre farm. Together they had one son, Edward Martin Storhoff b 1892. He was tall, dark and handsome, and since there are no pictures of August, we can assume that he was also tall dark and handsome. Edwards son, Donald, and grandson look very much alike. Edwards first born son, Oral Robert Storhoff looks more like his mother, Edna Irene Sather. You will find her heritage in my Haagen Sather story. Not much is known about August other than he was most likely a fisherman because we have a large tusk with his name in Skrimshaw on it. Edward married Edna in 1916. Anna gave her a primrose as a wedding gift and I am in possession of that 100 years later. It is amazing that it has survived. For decades it existed in the ground, by the side of the house, in an un-assuming place. My mother told me the history, dug it up and gave it to me. I never gave it another thought until much later. What an epiphany that was. Eddie and Edna lived on his parents farm. Anna died in 1928 and they took care of August. Some years the family moved to a smaller farm of 10 acres, down the road. August lived to be 86 years old. He is buried with Anna in the Poulsbo Cemetery. Eddie became the PTA President of the Lincoln School on Noll Road. Edna and Edward had many, many relatives on Noll Road. Edward had 4 sisters, a brother, and an Aunt & Uncle, and cousins, who all lived on Noll. Edna had her father and step-mother, and step-siblings who all lived nearby. They had wonderful times together as you will see by the photos. August Martinussen was born 1857 to Martinus Evensen b 1825 and Evina Eriksdatter Sæter b 1822. Martinus Evensen's parents were, Even Pedersen Opsal b 1791, and Berthe Gulbrandsdatter Storhov b 1788. Even father Peder Olsen Opsal b 1758 Ole Pedersen Opsal Vallset b 1735 Peder Olsen Opal b 1696 Evina's parents are, Erik Olsen Sæter b 1777 & Anne Jorgensdatter Refsal b 1779. My grandfather was Oral Robert Storhoff b 1916. His daughter was Judy Anne Storhoff Jensen b 1942. To be continued...
